What It Means For Patients

• No more memorizing medications and dosages, remembering hospital visits, listing conditions, getting x-rays done twice.

• Your information will be safer and more secure than transferring paper records because of the strong privacy and security protections now in place within this system.

• Your information won't be misplaced in an office or viewed by anyone other than the people who care for your health, so it is more secure than faxing or mailing, and it saves you the time of personally delivering x-rays and other radiology images.

• As a patient, you will give consent to your doctor for your health records and information to be accessed by another physician or healthcare facility that is treating you.

What it means for Physicians

• As a physician, hospital or other healthcare provider, you can be assured that your patients' records will be private, secure and only accessed by other authorized physicians and healthcare professionals. 

• You will be able to manage a referral system that helps you coordinate care with other professionals  involved in your patient's care.

• You will more readily receive and ask for information that you can access instantaneously, instead of waiting for results, faxing information, relying on phone calls and depending upon paper

• You and other authorized users will enter into a business agreement with the Ohio Health Information Partnership that requires you to comply with policies, procedures, and state and federal laws regarding the sharing of patient information.

• You will be trained to follow certain procedures that limit access to these records and that ensure only authorized users can view the health information.

• In addition, strong technological security protections are in place that provide controls to restrict access, encrypt information and use sophisticated defense systems to keep this health information safe and secure.
