The Regional Extension Center Committee advises our organization's leadership and Board of Directors about how best to provide services to the potential 6,000 eligible physicians and healthcare professionals in Ohio who can adopt and use electronic health record (EHR) systems, especially those located in rural and more remote parts of Ohio. This committee's work created seven Regional Partners, also called regional extension centers, in various areas of the state that are responsible for signing up physicians and hospitals to the program and assisting them in meaningfully using electronic health records to improve patient care. In turn, these physicians and hospitals can receive federal Medicaid and Medicare financial incentives.

Vision

The Ohio Health Information Partnership, which is both a regional extension center and a health information exchange, will serve as the umbrella organization to promote the use of electronic health records through regional partnerships that will also serve as regional extension centers.

Objectives:

  • Development of statewide center of excellence and an extension center
  • Recommendations for standards development of regional partners
  • Provider outreach, education and support
  • Facilitator for electronic health records adoption
