Privacy & Policy Committee
The Ohio Health Information Partnership wants to ensure that the exchange of health records through the state’s health information exchange is safe, secure and respects a patient's privacy. The Privacy and Policy Subcommittee reports its recommendations and work to both the Health Information Exchange Committee and the Executive Board. Its members are stakeholders throughout Ohio with legal, physician's practice management and health provider perspectives.
Vision
The Privacy and Policy Subcommittee’s vision is to explore the patient privacy issues that are presented when health information is exchanged electronically and to create procedures and policies.
Objectives:
- Make recommendations to the Health Information Exchange Committee and the Executive Board on the policies and procedures that will govern the statewide health information exchange (HIE).
- Research and provide recommendations on patient consent procedures for the statewide HIE.
- Write a white paper that summarizes Ohio common law and federal laws that govern patient privacy and provide interpretations to formulate recommendations.
- Receive stakeholder input on research and recommendations.
- Finalize the consent policy to be used in participant agreements.
- Recommend legislative changes, where necessary.
